You are beautiful. I lost belief in that truth. I see the scars on my body & a girl uncomfortable in her own skin. Our minds can become so focused on imperfections or flaws. Sadly, we all in this world will have something that’s made us feel our beauty isn’t enough. But we can combat that lie because in God we do have a space where beauty is enough. No need to hide or prove. God doesn’t see anything to fix. The only fix He wants of you is just a change of heart. To see like He sees, to see our true beauty.
Sometimes words just can’t change what we feel or think, but Jesus can. So I know this as I write, but I do hope and pray you allow Jesus into the parts of you that may speak lies, like about this topic of beauty.
When I first think of the image of beauty, my mind is flooded with the prettiest girls from social media. And I think, I’ll never fit into that. And maybe I never will, because that is the world’s standards and I can’t change that. But what I can change is my perspective of beauty. To God’s image. Here, there is not a narrow box where standards are placed. Because every single one of us fit into what He calls beautiful. Tall or short, fat or skinny, white or black, whatever it is that would usually be compared is cancelled out and replaced with the Lords voice. And He says we are ALL created in His image. That He doesn’t look at what man looks at. That you are fearfully and wonderfully made.
1 Peter 3:3-4 says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
Our view of beauty makes a difference. The verse above reminds us of the beauty God sees. And that is of an inner beauty. Inwardly is the root of who we are & our heart for Christ. External image won’t define our beauty. Our outside looks will change & fade, but our inside looks remain & last forever. When we follow God and His Word and allow His Spirit to work within us, true beauty can be found. Connection with Him strengthens us in the truth.
I didn't like the girl I saw in the mirror. And that didn’t change, until I looked through God's eyes. I had to let go of my lenses, in order to pick up His. And I found my true identity. We all are a child of God. He calls you fearfully & wonderfully made. We are the magnificent work of God’s hand. You are not a mistake, you are His beautiful creation. He loves you deeply. And these truths will never change.
In a world with so many standards about appearance, I’m so grateful that our true beauty is found in Christ. What He says about us is true and honest and real. And His voice in this is the only one that really matters.
I am beautiful, is something I still need reminding of every single day. Knowing the King of Kings, the one who created the beautiful world, also created me in His image, helps myself to believe. And I pray if your reading this message, that you see yourself the way God sees you, so beautifully made.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
- Psalm 139:14
