What feels like home to you?

Several of my recent birthdays have come at times I was not at home. I was always located somewhere unexpected. A mental health hospital, gallbladder surgery, Disney World, and a program for robotics therapy. Every time (except Disney lol) I just wanted to be at home. Doing things I enjoy, resting in my bed, reading books, spending time with my dogs, watching a tv show with my family. I wanted to leave and go into that comfort place. Where I felt safe and secure.

None of those times I was able to be at home. I got anxious being in a foreign place, away from what I'm used to. I felt that longing of being satisfied. But when I stopped to think about this, I realized home was not a physical place. Home is a safe place, a hiding place, a refuge that I can run to, a place I can abide in. And what better place to find that but from Jesus!

You can feel at home when Jesus is with you. And the beautiful thing is that He is with you all the time. So if you ever feel lost, and want to return to the comfort of home, run to Jesus. Don't run to worldly things. His home is a place you can feel loved, worthy, secure, cared for, and always enough.

A spiritual home is just as real and alive and active, found in the power and love of Jesus Christ. If I set my eyes on Jesus and His faithful promises, I could still feel at home, despite physically being in a hospital. Physical places are always temporary. We never have a guarantee that we will be satisfied or feel complete based on a place. We can’t rely on the things of this world to supply our need of safety. But praise God, because we have Jesus!

We have an anchor, a constant source of light, love, and protection in Him. Our worldly homes may change and come and go but Christ’s home stays the same. That is a guaranteed thing. Circumstances may change but God stays the same. His presence is everywhere at every time. It is a constant gift that God is always with us, even when we can’t feel it.

Jesus is my home, His presence is my home, and His Holy Spirit is living within me. Come close to Jesus—He is near and wants you to feel the safety of His love.

Open up your heart to the one who created the breath inside of you. Slow down and listen and grab ahold of the home found in Jesus. It is a safe place. 💗
