Rare disease day

Today is Rare Disease Day and it’s a day to raise awareness for the people with conditions, diseases and illnesses which are overlooked, in the shadows and unknowns. Access to treatment and care need improving for the 300 million people in the world with over 6000+ rare diseases. Nobody should feel invisible, helpless, left out and alone.

Though I have many different illnesses, only two of them are rare diseases: Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) and Gastroparesis:

CMT is hereditary motor & sensory peripheral neuropathy. This disease attacks the peripheral nerves, making the muscles around them weak. As the nerves die and the muscles atrophy, the hands and feet change shape, making it hard to walk and hold things. Other symptoms include nerve pain and fatigue.

Gastroparesis means partial paralysis of the stomach. It is a condition that affects the stomach muscles and prevents proper stomach emptying. It slows or stops the movement of food from your stomach to your small intestine. Symptoms include nausea, abdominal pain, and more.

I hope to bring more awareness to these conditions and rare diseases in general. God can do big things even through things that are less known. I’m grateful He has given me this platform no matter how small the audience is. And thank you to you all for listening and encouraging me along the way 🤍
