Psalm 91

I heard this song called “Safe in Your Arms” by Josh Baldwin. There’s this particular part I want to share. It says…

“And the only shadow I see

Is the shadow of Your wings

And the only shelter I need

Is the shadow of Your wings.”

It reminded me of Psalm 91. Psalm 91 is assurance from God, that is given to those who trust in Him. It gives us confidence that as a believer we can rely on Him to get through the tough times. I recommend reading the whole chapter, if not specifically verse 1-2 and verse 4 (at the end).

This chapter made me think of the other day—I was trying to take pictures of my two dogs. But I was struggling to because of how bright the sun was. I think my mom must have seen this, because she stepped in front of me to give me shade so I could continue on.

Like my mom was a shade for me, God is a shade for us—where He blocks out the heat of difficulties that life brings. God sees the pain in your life but He does not give us more then He can handle. He provides a way out and that way out is to rest under His wings. Under His wings we find refuge and security. We can continue on because He gives us the strength to do so when we come to Him.

We need to stay next to God and cling to Him, if we want to have His shadow fall on us. God whispers to you, “Walk in my shadow, close to my side”.  When we move on or stray away from Him, we will lose that safety. But His arms are always open wide for us to come back home. God whispers to you, “Feel the embrace of my loving arms wrapped around you”.

God is the dwelling-place, the habitat that we can stay in, a home of our own where we can find comfort. God is our hiding place, our secret place, our shelter that we can run to. Dwelling there provides a refuge from difficultes. The shadow of being under His wings gives me protection. We are sheltered by the Most High. His presence is a quiet, safe place where I can find peace and calm. This place is where you can find confidence. It’s a place of complete security.

God is close, He is near. So stay near to God. He goes before you and covers you with His wings from behind. We can run to God’s covering and hide under His shield. His shield surrounds you on every side.

Having faith in the Almighty God as your Protector will carry you through the dangers and fears of life. Let Him be who you abide in. Turn to Him to find relief from the battles you face. He is in fact the one who fights for us.

We are never alone. God will help us face the full heat of our troubles and He will provide a shade. Resting in His presence is a refuge that only He can provide. God is our stronghold, our fortress, and our defender. Let Him be your protector. Stay at His feet in surrender. Sit under His wings. It’s safe.

Verse 1-2:   “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.”

Verse 4:  “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
