Progress is not linear

These past two weeks I have been in an intensive outpatient robotics program for physical therapy and occupational therapy. I had to travel, but we got to be at the Ronald McDonald House—a place for families to stay while the child is doing treatment at the hospital. I’m so grateful that God provided it for us to stay there.

My muscles are weak due to a nerve disease I have called CMT. In this program I have therapists that help me do and exercises that work on strengthening and motor control using robotic equipment, biofeedback, and e-steem.

Unfortunately my doctor came during therapy and saw that I wasn’t making much progress in my left foot and that He’s gonna try something new, yet nerve wracking.

And I share this because it reminded me that: Progress to healing is not a linear line. Things are going to fail us, things may fall apart, things are not perfect. It is like an uphill mountain with some ups and downs on the way. But that’s okay because when we cling to the Lord, we can be secure. We can learn to ride the wave with His direction.

It takes time, healing takes a lot of time, and if we try to carry that weight by ourselves we are going to fall (but not literally like me lol). We need to hand time over to God. He has a perfect timing for everything, and that never changes. It takes giving up the control we’ve been holding on to and switching it to surrender.

You are enough even if you’re not making progress! (Like the sign says)

We may want to reach our goal as fast as we can, but God is asking us to slow down. He’s asking us to stop and be still. To breathe in and out. To be mindful of ourselves and the world around us. To let go and just be. Be in His presence—just as you are, just as you feel. There’s a seat for you at the table. He welcomes you in, and though we try to fill our lives with busyness, He is still waiting there arms open to bring you back home.

So look around at the beauty of God’s creation, breathe deep and rest knowing there’s someone out there who is taking care of every minute of your every day. Thank you God. 🤍
