“Come out of hiding”

A poem…

Hide the pain behind her smile

A mask she’s worn for a while

Fake it till you make it they say

There didn’t seem to be another way

And so she tried and she tried

To hold back the tears in her eyes

The aching deep in her heart

The very thing that’s meant to kept her alive

Felt more like a monster dressed in disguise

She felt less alone and seen when others were around. Even admits the sound,

there was relief in this world of pretending.

Wanting to have the image that she portrayed so well on the outside. But all she ever did was hide, and it took a huge toll on her mind. So she set out for the freedom that she needed to find.

Kept trying to craft together a story that wasn’t even meant for her. She had to learn to hold on to her journey, even when it felt too much to endure.

It took time to find that new space, but she knew it was okay to go at her own pace. Letting go of locked up feelings and breathing in peace and healing.

Though she still mourns the girl she once was

And all the things she had to let go of

She’s reminded of rejoicing

at the girl that she has become

Maybe she had to lose what she had

Stripped of details that held on for so long

So that she could find what truly matters

And maybe she lost that space she felt secure in

The melody written in her song

But she had to step outside her comfort zone

To find where she truly belonged

She allowed herself piece by piece

to come out of hiding

Knowing she is enough

as she continued on fighting
