It was Friday afternoon on a dreary, cloudy day. We were getting ready to leave on a three-hour drive to Athens, Georgia, to watch my brother run his first-ever marathon.

Before we left, I sat down in my comfy chair by the window and began praying — talking to God about life and the things I was hoping and trusting Him to bring. As I prayed through different areas of my life, I also asked for protection.

When I finished, I looked out the glass window and noticed a gray bird and a squirrel near each other. Something about it caught my attention, so I decided to look up the spiritual meaning behind seeing them together.

Sometimes I wonder if God is truly speaking to me in moments like this or if it’s just my own thoughts. But I chose to follow through anyway, not wanting to miss something God might be showing me.

When I read the meaning, I was surprised — it described exactly what I had just prayed about. I looked back out the window and once again saw the gray bird and the squirrel sitting close together. The moment felt so peaceful, beautiful, and healing.

I wasn’t expecting it, but it reminded me that God often speaks in gentle ways and that we should expect great things, because He has good plans for us.

Seeing a gray bird and a squirrel together often symbolizes a harmonious blend of preparation, balance, and finding joy in daily life. In many spiritual interpretations, this combination represents a “shared table” of life — where different energies coexist and support one another.

As I reflected on this, I realized how closely it connected to the prayers I had just prayed. I had asked God to prepare safety and protection for the people affected by the snowstorm that weekend, and to prepare a life for me that honors and glorifies Him. I prayed about finding balance in my relationship with God — making equal effort to spend time with Him while also giving myself grace to rest and not be too hard on myself.

I also prayed about finding joy in my everyday life. Even though some days have felt mundane, I asked God to help me notice the little things, to live with gratitude, and to trust that He can bring exceedingly more joy than I expect.

Lastly, I prayed with thanksgiving for a relationship I love — a beautiful friendship where we can support one another, talk openly, and be vulnerable. A reminder of that “shared table” of life, where we can share both the good and the hard moments, and where different energies can coexist in love and understanding.

God’s Word reminds us:

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”

— Jeremiah 29:11

Moments like this remind me that God is always working — even in the quiet, ordinary parts of our days. He hears every prayer, big and small, and He gently shows us His presence in ways that bring peace, reassurance, and joy.

If you’re in a season that feels ordinary, uncertain, or heavy, know that God is still preparing beautiful things for you. Look for Him in the little moments. Trust Him with your prayers. And expect great things — because He is faithful and His plans are always good.
