Wheelchair thoughts

Yesterday was national wheelchair day. For several years I have been using a wheelchair to help me get around. I hesitated for a while until getting it though because of fear.

I am an ambulatory wheelchair user which means that I can walk a little bit but in limited circumstances. My wheelchair is needed—especially for longer distances. It helps me manage my fatigue, pain, poor balance, dizziness, and more. It causes less detriment to my health.

My wheelchair is not a burden, but a freedom and independence. It has given me back things that I enjoy that I couldn’t do otherwise. I’m so grateful to have one accessible for me.

Here are some cool truths that God has shown me through using a wheelchair:

• God accepts me fully in my wheelchair even if others don’t.

• God is not focused on your limitations. He sees our weaknesses and makes it our strength.

• Every person has a place in the body of Christ, even if they are disabled.

• What you can’t do, God can. I wish I could walk without consequences, but I also know that God can use my physical weakness for something good that advances His kingdom. My non-mobility could help someone else to be mobile in their relationship with Christ.

• Be grateful for what you have. I wasn’t grateful for walking until I started struggling with it. Don’t take the simple things for granted.

• The Holy Spirit is like a wheelchair. He guides you the right direction through His wisdom, and keeps you from falling down. Jesus gives you the ability to keep moving, to keep fighting, even if you’re stuck in life’s hardships. He can use unmovable things.

• Our God is able, even when we are not. When I have no energy I need someone to push me in my wheelchair. God will push us through hardships that become too much and give us strength.

• Walk with God. Spiritually we can always walk with Him, but sin can separate us. So we need to walk in obedience. Walk by faith, not by sight.

• Jesus carries you in His arms. You are held and protected. If you're going through a hard time and you no longer feel the Lord or see his foot steps behind you, it's not because He left, it's because He's carrying you. 💗
