Disability Pride

I missed it by a day but July was Disability Pride Month and I loved seeing everyone post about it and share awareness and their experiences and passion for this community that I’m so grateful to be apart of. 💗

To me, disability pride means fully embracing my disability. It means accepting ourselves just the way we are, not something to change, but honoring each other’s uniqueness and being seen as equals. Becoming disabled pushed myself to pay attention to my needs and ask for help in ways I couldn’t before. It freed me from being ashamed. I feel like I finally belong and am proud of who I am. That’s something worth celebrating. 🤍

Now that July is over, I don’t want us to just move on and forget about this. Disability pride is so important and means the world to me. It’s something we should celebrate every month of the year. So let us keep choosing to stand up together in fighting for disability rights and honoring the beautiful experiences we have in this community.

Thank you to everyone in the chronic illness/disability community that has supported me and encouraged me along this journey. I couldn’t have gotten through without you. I’m so happy to know I’m not alone. Together we are powerful and strong. Sending out all the love in my heart to you. And of course many spoons 🥄
